> Piezo switches with seal-tight protection meet highest standard class IP69K
By achieving the seal-tight protection class of IP69K, SCHURTER is extending the spectrum of potential applications for its already tried-and-tested PSE family of piezo switches.

The qualification test was carried out using a high-pressure vapor stream at 90 Bar and a temperature of 80°C. The hermetically sealed piezo switches can now be used in areas, which are regularly disinfected or cleaned using high-pressure cleaners. This renders them ideal for use in applications exposed to high levels of dirt and grime such as food processing, commercial cooking and transportation.

Besides the extraordinarily long lifetime of more than 20 million switching cycles, SCHURTER piezo switches also reveal a high level of robustness due to their stainless steel or aluminum housing. The following mounting diameters are available as standard: 16, 19, 22, 24, 27 and 30 mm. Other mounting diameters, materials, colors and shapes are possible, according to individual design requirements.

Point or ring illumination is offered in mounting sizes 22 mm and up. This feature can be used to illuminate the actuating surface in a continuous mode or to display the switch position ON or OFF. Laser lettering is available and done in house to minimize lead times. A broad range of standard legends and symbols are available. Customer-specific inscriptions are also available.

> MSM LA
Robust Vandal-Proof Switch with Latching Action MSM LA

The robust metal switches of the existing MSM product family are now also available with a push-on, push-off latching function. The switch position (ON / OFF) is easy to recognize from the resting position of the actuator. In the OFF state, the actuator position protrudes from the housing; in the ON state, it is depressed into the housing. This provides a user-friendly actuating function and also prevents inadvertent switching, e.g. caused by objects leaning on the switch. The switch is designed with two isolated contacts and may thus be used for single- and two-pole switching solutions. The MSM LA can be used at an operating voltage of 30 VDC up to 250 VAC at a maximum switching current of 12 A. Due to the IP 67 rating the switch is suitable for different fields of application. The switch is available with a mounting diameter of 19 and 22 mm and may be used within a temperature range of -25°C to +85°C. The design of the new MSM LA is the same as that of the existing MSM product line. In addition, the switch is also available with ring illumination. The illumination can be used to display the switch position or may be activated to provide visibility during night-time use. Typical application areas for the switch include industrial automation, the food-processing industry, passenger transportation, medical equipment, measuring devices, info terminals, vending machines and operating units.

> Piezo switches with extended temperature range
Piezo switches resistant to water and dirt and for application at extreme temperatures.

Piezo switches from SCHURTER have proved themselves optimal in meeting the demands for extremely long lifetime and for an operating surface that is seal-tight in order to prevent the access of dust and fluids. For the switches with an N.O. switching function, the operating temperature range has been extended to -40°C up to +85°C. This means that the piezo switches can now also be used in outside applications where extreme temperatures and temperature fluctuations may occur. The switches contain no moving parts, have a robust metal housing made of anodized aluminum or stainless steel and are hermetically sealed. The lifetime (lifetime > 20 million switching cycles) is almost unlimited, as barely any material wear or mechanical fatigue arises. The piezo switches are resistant to dirt, sand, dust and water; they can neither freeze nor stick through contact with fluids.

The following mounting diameters are available as standard: 16, 19, 22, 24, 27 and 30 mm. Other mounting diameters, materials, colors and shapes are possible for adapting the switches to specific design requirements. SCHURTER offers the piezo switch with point or ring illumination from a mounting diameter of 22 mm. For devices with night design, the illumination serves to make the actuating surface visible. The ring illumination may also be used for providing optical feedback or for displaying the switch position (ON/OFF). For lettering the actuating surface on our in-house laser-lettering unit, numerous standard lettering possibilities are available. Customer-specific lettering and symbols can also be produced.

> Metal switch with double pole switch contacts
SCHURTER’s MSM metal switch series has been extended to include a version with a double pole contact system.

The new MSM DP switch is designed with two separate switching contacts. The separate contacts can be used as normally open, normally closed or as change-over. The MSM DP is ideal for potential free momentary switching action of electrical equipment. Furthermore, the switch can be used in applications where an additional second contact is required for a safety circuit. Typical applications are emergency switches where the control loop is switched, and in addition a second circuit for emergency services is activated.

Due to its flat front construction of 1.7 mm, a protection class of IP67 and a high shock resistance, the switch is extremely robust against vandalism. The MSM DP is available in mounting dimensions 19, 22 and 30 mm. The standard type is designed with switching capacities up to 3A / 250 VAC and 5A / 125 VAC respectively. For applications having other switching capacities, alternative variants are available on request. For night applications or where optical status indications are desired, point and ring illuminated versions in different colours are available.

> PTS - Public Transport Switch
The Public Transport Switch is designed as a door pushbutton switch for usage in public transportation applications such as trains, buses, trams and undergrounds. Due to the user-friendly design the PTS switches can be easily operated by elderly and handicapped people.

With the new PTS series SCHURTER fulfills the technical standards and the requirements of the designers. Design and Ergonomics aspects play a major role in today’s public transportation world, the so-called functionality is not the sole decision criteria.

The switching status is visually indicated through an illumination ring. The illumination ring is lit by LED’s according to the customer request. A typical switch option is equipped with 8 green LED´s and 4 red LED´s, the red LED’s give the passenger an actuation signal that the switch was pressed. An additional option is the illumination with 8 yellow LED`s.

The PTS switches can be fixed with 3 screws. These screws are located behind the front bezel and therefore, they are not visible for the passengers. The standard front bezel comes with the RAL code 1023, yellow color. It can be lettered with braille codes and legends. A unique feature of the PTS series is the outstanding tactile feedback with a lifetime of 2 million cycles. A further advantage is the illumination with a viewing angle of 180 degree, which gives a wide-range identification of the switching status. The PTS switches of SCHURTER are available as standard versions with 24 V and 110 V supply voltage ratings and angled cables.

Schurter announced today the extension of its popular MSM series to include an IP67 protected contact system. This added seal protection increases the safety and performance of the switch in critical applications.

For regular environmental conditions, the MSM contact system is protected by a seal integrated in the mechanical pushbutton and by a sealing ring secured to the housing. If high humidity occurs or water leaks through the opening into the housing, it becomes necessary to use the version with increased seal protection of the contact system.

For such applications SCHURTER offers an IP67 protected contact system. The switch is available with electrical rating of 6A / 250 VAC. Alternative electrical ratings and additional types are available on request. The switch fits tight to the panel, with a height of only 1.7 mm. Mounting diameters for the MSM series are 16, 19, 22 and 30 mm. Point and ring illuminated versions are available for applications where optical status indications are desired, such as dark conditions or disability access systems.

> Snap-in switch - Metal switch snaps into tight spaces
Schurter expands its range of metal switches with a new mounting technology.

The switches can be assembled from the front side of the equipment without additional fastening from the rear side. The new snap-in technology enables quick assembly. Due to this method of mounting, the metal switches can be used in applications with limited assembly space or where the access to the rear side of the housing is not possible. Typical fields of application are found in building technology or in machine construction with hollow profiles.

A further advantage is the cost savings as additional fastening material can be omitted and the assembly time can be reduced. Conventional metallic switches have to be fixed by a nut or a clamp from the rear side of the housing. For the snap-in switches mounting accessories or assembly tools are not required.

Therefore, the switches can be placed closer together due to additional spacing on the rear side. The snap-in technology is available for metal switches with a mounting diameter of 19, 22, 24, 27 and 30 mm.

> Schurter's Metal Line Switches Glow in Blue
Vandal-proof Switches Designed for Dim Lighted Areas

Schurter announced today the addition of blue illuminated Piezo and mechanical switches into their Metal Line offering. The new color option joins the existing yellow, red and/or green options in point or ring lighted versions. The luminous switches are designed for use in applications where lighting is dim, and indication is necessary to identify the actuation area. The optical feedback indicates the switch position (on/off). Custom legends can be applied to identify switching function. Pictures and/or text can be applied to stainless steel types. The laser-etched letters and symbols are resistant to abrasion and fading for a lifetime that exceeds that of the switch.

The Schurter Metal Line is comprised of a wide range of vandal-proof metal switches. Metal Line products are available with Piezo electronics for long-life, protection against outdoor elements, high impact resistance and overall indestructible wear. Also available are switches with electromechanical actuators for applications requiring travel with the switching action. Mounting dimensions range from 16 to 30 mm and have an IK rating 02 - 07 for impact withstand. IP ratings range from 40 – 67 for degree of seal protection. Examples of applications in public areas that are exposed to dimly lit conditions are ticket terminals, parking garages, gas stations, roadside call boxes, elevators, door controls, automated bank machines, internet terminals and information booths.

> Schurter Extends MSM Line to Include Switch with Larger Actuation Area
Schurter announced today the new 30 mm stainless steel switch into its existing MSM series.

The current product line is already available in 16, 19, and 22 mm mounting diameters. The new MSM 30 offers the same robust characteristics as its smaller counter-parts, only it has a larger, ergonomically designed, actuating area for superb tactile feel. Actuation force is 4.5 Newtons. Contact travel is only 1 millimeter with a fixed stop accompanied by a pleasant audible click. The MSM series provides maximum switching power over a voltage range of 5 V DC to 250 V AC and a current range of 0.1 – 10 amps. Switching action is single-pole, momentary with N.O. and N.C. contacts.

Built for tough environments, the MSM carries a water-resistant rating of IP 67, making it ideal for use in equipment exposed to the liquid spills, drips, leaks or wash-downs. A shock resistant rating of IK 07 makes it ideal for use in environments where the switch can be subject to heavy use or impact. The switch can also operate under varying temperature conditions as low as -25 and as high as 85 °C. A flat front construction of only 1.7 millimeters provides a nearly flush mounting to the panel surface, which makes it less conspicuous and therefore less likely to be knocked or battered from the side. These new MSM 30 are ideal for systems where a large actuating area is required for operation, such as information and vending systems. Wiring is via quick connect terminals. Assembly includes prewiring of the contact module, which is then snapped onto the actuator housing. Point and ring illuminated versions of the MSM are available for applications where optical status indications are desired, such as dark conditions or disability access systems.
